The weta are an endemic insect of NZ.

Weta look a bit disturbing because they have spikes on their legs and tusks on their head. They also have long antennae to feel in the dark. Weta’s beady eyes are very good at seeing.

Weta are endemic to New Zealand and can be found all over the country!

If you look you can find them in your shade full greenhouse and if you leave your window open you might find a Weta has moved in. They also live in the bush and under stones.

Weta breed in spring and they lay eggs in batches of six to ten. Weta make their nests in the shade of the bush.

Weta are herbivores meaning they mostly eat plants but if they desperately need to they eat other bugs!

I think Weta are a perfect bug of New Zealand.
