The Kiwi is a native NZ bird.

Kiwis are quite small and most of them are brown. They are also quite stiff and chubby. They have a very long bill. They have shaggy feathers and thin hair. Their legs are strong with webbed feet. Some people consider them as fluffy. They are the only birds with nostrils at the end of their beak.

Some people think they just live in the bush but not all of them. Some live in sand dunes and snowy tussocks. They also live in mangroves and in burrows.

Kiwis eat small things like worms and seeds. They also eat some fruits and small crayfish. They even eat eels, grubs and amphibians.

Females lay their first eggs at the age of 3 to 5. A brown Kiwi will often lay two to three clutches each year.

Kiwis are an amazing NZ bird.
