Weta are an endemic insect because they are only found in NZ. 

They lay their eggs in the Autumn and Winter and  they  hatch in spring

Weta live in caves, logs, tree trunks and grassland. They do not live in other countries. They weigh up to 35 grams. They have long back legs for jumping with and they have spikes on them.

Weta eat leaves, bugs, and fruit.
